The Sunshine State better known as Florida has two NBA teams that seek to put that region among the elite to feature prominently in the league. The two teams in question are the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat.
Ever since the Heat won the NBA championship in 2006 the
Magic have had to contend to being considered the second favorite team from that state. Some chapters in the books of history indicate that the Magic have reached the NBA finals twice and have lost in both occasions.
Last year the Magic shocked the world when they won the Eastern Conference title against the favorites Cleveland Cavaliers. In the finals they lost to the Lakers who denied them their first ever championship. It’s on this note, that when this season begun, many pundits expected the Magic to pick up where they had left last season and show enough character to replicate what they had done.
Unfortunately the going this season has been quite tough and those who thought the Magic have what it takes to go a step higher than where they reached last season, are beginning to cast doubts on that possibility. The Magic have seen the Eastern Conference top position change hands from the Hawks, to the Celtics and finally to the Cavaliers. The only time they took the helm of the conference standings they didn’t last long enough to create an impression that they were not giving it up their crown.
Before this season begun they acquired eight-time all star Vince Carter also known as half man half amazing and Matt Barnes to help them win the elusive title. The fact of the matter is that the Magic are still struggling to find a winning pattern. Interestingly, they still have Dwight Howard and they don’t have any injured players who have been sidelined. One is left to wonder, where are they going wrong?
In the first quarter it could be understood that they were struggling because of the new players who were still adapting to the playing rhythm. With the second quarter just about to end, we can say that the rhythm seems to have been achieved however it has not yet produced a strong, lasting tune that will make their fans sing all the way to the top.
The third quarter is knocking at the door and attention will once again shift on the Magic to step it up. They are carrying the Floridian flag and if they want to get out of the shadows of the Heat they have to win the title.
The Celtics, Cavaliers and the Hawks look very strong and the Magic cant afford drop games any more. There is still plenty of time to get back on top if they just find the missing piece to the jigsaw puzzle. Lets just hope they find the missing piece before the regular season comes to an end.
