Behind the eye-catching rocky mountain landscape of Colorado State resides the Denver Nuggets, an NBA team that plays its home matches at the Pepsi center arena.
Unlike some of notable NBA teams, the Nuggets don’t have a rich history as far as their superiority
in the league is concerned. They have never even reached the NBA finals and their two attempts of winning the Western Conference title have not been fruitful.
Ever since the Nuggets drafted Carmelo Anthony in 2003 NBA draft, the team’s face has constantly appeared in the playoffs. Their competitiveness has grown steadily to a team that can now be considered a possible contender in causing an upset to the leagues top teams.
Last season they had one of the most successful seasons in their franchise history. They even managed to reach their second Western Conference finals where they lost to the Lakers.
This season they have not disappointed either, although injuries to Melo and Billups have slowed down their ascension to the summit of the western conference. Judging by how well they have done to remain inside the playoff radius, the Nuggets fans have every reason to believe that they will be among the last eight when the regular season is over.
Currently they are occupying the fourth position in the conference standings and they are leading their North West division. The strongest part of the Nuggets is clearly portrayed while playing at home. They are one of the four teams that have only lost thrice at their home court. The other three are the Lakers, the Cavaliers and amazingly the Hornets. It will be quite interesting to see how well the Nuggets will utilize their home court, once they reach the playoffs. Historical accomplishment of a team, home court advantage and players supremacy on the court can greatly influence the results of a team’s performance. The Nuggets have shown that they can use their home court to their advantage, they have the players’ supremacy but they lack the history that has branded them as underdogs umpteen times.
When the Nuggets were busy constructing themselves last decade, the Spurs and the Lakers were calling the shots. Even though the Nuggets seem to have started calling their own shots every now and then this decade, they have so far not called a shot that is loud enough to be echoed by the Rocky Mountains. Until such a call is made, the Nuggets will always be considered the underdogs when they up against the notable teams in the West. In spite of this, no team has the courage ignore them.
